Red-necked Phalarope

Description

A very rare visitor to Guernsey, and a lifer for me. The Red-necked Phalarope, seen here in winter plumage, is a small wader (smaller than our Blackbird). This phalarope breeds in the Arctic regions of North America and Eurasia. It is migratory, and, unusually for a wader, winters at sea on tropical oceans.
